Roy Shepperd helped Miss Marion Cearley coach the first boys basketball team.

He helped Miss Cearley coach the Salado boys because she knew little about the game. At that time, all the teachers were women, except the superintendent.

The team attended out-of-town games in a flat-bed Ford truck loaned to the team by Carl Aiken, Sr., who was a trustee of the Salado school at that time.

Night games were played at the Belton High School gym or the Temple Masonic Lodge Gym.
